V Montreale umenie môžete vidieť všade, klasické a súčasné moderné, jeho tvorbu, ale aj inováciu. A to nielen v architektonických skvostoch a moderných sochách na uliciach, ale aj v galériách vďaka práci ich majiteľov, ktorí pracujú s miestnymi aj zahraničnými umelcami. 

In Montreal, art, classical and modern, is seen everywhere. It is not only in architectural showpieces and modern street sculptures, but also, thanks to the work of gallery owners, in galleries. 

Želajúc vidieť niekoľko menších a útulných umeleckých galérií,  v jedno slnečné letné nedeľné popoludnie sme v skupine asi 10 Montrealčanov prechádzali po dláždených uliciach Starého Montrealu, ktoré odrážajú plynutie času.

Wishing to see some small and cozy art galleries, in a hot summer Sunday afternoon, I walked with a group of about 10 Montrealers in the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal, which reflects the passage of time.

Historické centrum Montrealu – Old Montreal, franzúzsky Le Vieux-Montréal, je miesto kde môžete nájsť veľa súkromných galérií. Na ulici Saint-Paule sú galérie vystavujúce  klasiku - kresby, obrazy, grafiky, plastiky severoamerických a európskych umelcov. V ich susedstve, v starých zrekonštruovaných továrňach si našlo miesto niekoľko moderných galérií, z ktorých veľmi populárny je Arsenal sídliaci v obrovskej lodenici vybudovanej v r. 1846. 

Center of Old Montreal, le Vieux-Montréal in French, is a place of many private galleries. Galleries in rue Saint-Paul present expositions of classic drawings, paintings, prints, sculptures of North American and European artists. In their neighbourhood, several modern art galleries are located in renovated old factories, of which is very popular Arsenal settled in a huge shipyard built in 1846.

V to popoludnie sme navštívili štyri galérie v centre starého Montrealu s výstavou obrazov moderného súčasného umenia z ktorých ma najviac zaujala Galerie Angers. Je to komerčná galéria, ktorá sa špecializuje na predaj súčasného umenia. Nachádza sa v samom srdci starého Montrealu na ulici Sv. Dizier. Slávnostne ju inauguroval právnik Me Stephen Angers, ktorý si zo svojej advokátskej kancelárii vytvoril hlavný výstavný priestor. Práca v takejto kancelárii je už sama o sebe umeleckým zážitkom. Prešli sme niekoľkými kanceláriami a v každej boli vystavované obrazy a fotografie s témou zvierat, jednoducho, ale zaujímavo, hlavne slonov a králikov.  

During that summer afternoon, we visited four galleries with modern contemporary paintings and one of them quite impressed me. It was Gallerie Angers, a commercial gallery, which specializes in the sale of contemporary art. This gallery is in the heart of Old Montreal, in rue Saint Dizier. This interesting place was solemnly inaugurated by the lawyer Me Stephen Angers, who has created a major exhibition space from his law office. Working in such an office is already itself an artistic experience. We passed several rooms, and each exhibited paintings and photographs with the theme of animals, especially elephants and rabbits, simple, but interesting.

In the street of Old Montreal

Po štvrtej prehliadke moderného umenia v starom Montreale, letný dážď vystriedal horúce sparné popoludnie, a tak sme našu umeleckú túru ukončili v jednej kaviarničke v pôvabnej stavbe z minulého storočia. Avšak umelecký zážitok z toho neobyčajného letného popoludnia v spoločnosti milovníkov umenia a sformovaný atmosférou starého Montrealu zaplneného turistami zostal živý v mojich spomienkach až dodnes.  

As soon as we have finished the tour in the fourth gallery, summer rain relieved the hot humid weather, so we ended up our artistic tour and entered into one of cafes in a charming building from the last century. Artistic experience from that summer afternoon in Old Montreal with a group of art lovers was memorable and still lives within me even after some time.
